Sixth-semester students of the BS Sociology program at the University of Turbat (UoT), led by
faculty member Nooral Barkat, conducted an academic field visit to the Kech Thalassemia Care
Center (KTCC) in Turbat on September 17, 2026. The visit aimed to observe a specialized
community healthcare facility, examining the psycho-social dimensions of long-term patient
care, and recognizing student contributions to community health initiatives.

During a briefing, the KTCC Founder and Chairman Mr. Irshad Arif, outlined the institution's
history, operational challenges, patient demographics, and regional prevention initiatives to curb
the hereditary spread of Thalassemia. Students then visited the patient ward, sampling room, and
diagnostic laboratory, observing demonstrations of blood sampling protocols, screening
procedures, cross-matching methods, and safety standards for managing blood-borne conditions.

Appreciating the activity, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan said such academic-community
engagements reflect UoT's commitment to producing socially aware, community-oriented
graduates equipped for real-world public health challenges, adding that such activities strengthen
the bridge between classroom knowledge and field practice, in line with the university's Strategic
Plan 2030.
